Hello Ursula / Worldwide Brotherhood and welcome to MashStix :D

Prince Vs Larry Graham Vs The Supremes... This should be superb!!!... but unfortunately the vocal seems to be wandering all over the place... :(

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what's your musical background, what software are you using.. and then we can better understand how to help you sort this track out... because I for one love Prince and Larry Graham!!!

I actually rather liked that one. You're right, it's slow to start, but once it does, it's definitely worth it. I didn't hear problems with the vocal, but then again it was on my laptop and a little quiet. Glyn is more of an oficianado than I am. As far as I'm conerned, though, quite enjoyable. :)

Oh, and welcome to Mashstix! :D

Can't say I recognize any of the sources but I think the tempo wanders on and off beat like Lloyd said. It's a cool mix though and I didn't hear any key issues- has a very old school feel to it (which I think is what you were going for).

btw- Welcome to mashstix!

Hey, welcome to Mashstix. I really liked this mash. Sorry, don't know the sources, but they go very well together. Lloyds right about the vocal placing - it's not always on beat - an example of this was at 1:36 where she seems to come in too early. Also, for me, I would cut the intro down a little too - it's too long to my ears - I fast forwarded looking for the action to start (it takes 40s of beats and waves before the vocals begin). Just a few personnel thoughts. As I said, it's a nice lil mash, congrats and welcome to the site again! :D

Thanx again for that wonderful welcome and the feedbacks. That's more than expected. :)

@ lloyd: "Hah! I told u that" said my bro because that's what he said before I posted this tune. He did not say that the vocals are wandering all over the place but that they don't sit precise. He's totally addicted to Prince (so am I). That's the reason why he is sampling him always when he's doing sounds. We did this one together. Used software is Reaper.

@ darbus: Thanks for the friendly words and the welcome. It starts slowly, yes, because it's kind of an intro. It's the 1st tune posted. That needs an intro. My idea. Probably not my best.

@ onelove: Not recognizing the sources is fine because that's a different listening effect, isn't it? I love that. Does it has an old school feel for you? Guess that makes the Supremes voice and the Graham sample because the beats are Prince R'n'B made in 2010.

@ Flashard: Thanks for the congrats and it's really great that you like this mash. I am your fan now. The vocals doesn't really fit, everyone says that. I start thinking that you all are totally right with that (incl. my bro). ;)

Thanks again for the feedbacks so far. It's really good to see that people listening to this tune and give some honest hints. That's why I am really feeling welcome here.

Love.

You are indeed very welcome here :D

Don't worry about the length of intro, everyone will have a different view on that but if you like it keep it... i liked it.
but do move that vocal... i think your problem is you are concentrating on that 3 beat, the "dum dum dum" but that instrumental is actually a 4 beat... you need to work out which is the first beat in each bar and then it will all fall into place for you. ;)

Hey Ursula, welcome to Mashstix!

This is an interesting track - I really like the slow, deliberate pace of the beat and yes, the vocals do wander a little bit (they seem a touch rushed to my ear and could do with slowing down maybe a bpm or two, with more phrasing around the beat), but they fit the track wonderfully in a conceptual way.

I find the intro a little too long for my tastes (and this is coming from the guy who makes 3 or 4 minute long intros for his mixes!), so I think you could edit that down quite considerably (unfortunately, I think most people wouldn't have patience to sit through such a sparse sounding intro until the beat kicks in) or personally, I would start with the vocal acapella only, before kicking the "dum dum dum dum...du du...du du..." in to give it more dramatic entrance. But of course, it's your creation and as Lloyd says, if you like it, stick with it (I'm one of those make tracks for myself first, the audience second, kinda guys 8-) ).

But yep - I can see promise and potential here, especially with your choice of sources used! Am looking forward to hearing more from you!

Cheers
A.
