Mashed And Confused - Justin Bieber Vs The Killers

Postby MashedandConfused » Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:07 pm

OK, so the problem with having a LOT of acapellas (previously DLed in batch) is that you don't necessarily know who they're from!

So when I realised who Justin was, I still carried on for the sake of creativity, even though this might be the kind of post that might get me in trouble again, because some will think once again I have terrible taste in music for having previously used KP :D or worse, I actually collect pictures of Justin :D :D

Anyways, back to the music, here's the track, and in the spirit of rock'n'roll (and DJs who cut guitar solos on the radio), it is short!

Cheers

Thanks Dylan, you're right, I've tried to hide the acapella's backing vox etc... hence the cutting out, but it does create gaps especially in the verses...

There's a lot of reverb already, but I'm trying something else (more like an audio restoration) which might work, I'll let you know.

Thanks

Try changing the reverb type. It needs something with a slight delay - that will help mask the problem.

Sure, will do.

I've had a quick play this morning and actually managed to remove the kicks from the acapella :)

I think the way you changed the phrasing during the first verse is really cool, especially the syncopated "I'll be there." But there is one or 2 parts when it feels a bit awkward, mainly just the "my first love broke my heart for the first time" line. I think I would have placed that differently. That however might just be cause I'm so familiar with the original song (yeah I have Bieber fever. There's no known cure). What I mean to say is that if this was the first version of the song I had ever heard it, it would probably seem fine.

Other than that and the residual background vox, i think its really cool. I really like the "I wanna play it cool" part when the music cools down a bit. I think you made a song thats very close to my heart  a bit more dynamic and interesting

Thanks WG for your comments, it's great to get feedback from people who really know and like the material used ;)

I did my best with the placement and very pleased that it still does something for you.

Not knowing a song beforehand can be a real danger of course to annihilate existing song fans in regards to what they can expect, but sometimes it can bring new perspectives to the production.

I'm really found of that personally and as long as something musical happens, that's really what I'm after (I did that on other mashups before but some will not like this at all...)

Anyways, the acapella was pretty poor sound wise (especially those claps I've not removed yet) but you've just given me another reason to pursue its improvement, so watch out for V2 ;)

I agree with Wild Ginger, I like the phrasing changes...
but sometimes it's risky when using a bad DIY pella  remained clicks would make it sound off-beat.

(did i say bad DIY pella??   )

You do realise there is a studio acapella available for this ? Well I say that, I havent actually downloaded it to check its quality - but everywhere I have seen it says 'studio'.

I didn't - but if you know where I can get it, I'd be very grateful ;)

The ones I tried which were called "Studio" weren't at all!
