First things first: welcome to The Stix!

Fellow mod G3RSt (the guy behind the first mashup you mentioned) has a few more mashups using music from video games. Here's one where he mashes Foo Fighters and Zelda Windwaker.

Here's another one where he mashes Paramore with the Tetris theme. There are two versions, but I'm partial to the one below.

As for me, I did a doubleheader last year where I used music from "Angry Birds Transformers." Here's part 1 featuring Britney Spears...

Seems a rather untapped resource, if you ask me. A lot of game music is pretty damn fine on the ears.

There is a steadily emerging group of enthusiasts who have started remixing and mashing up 16 bit era (Sonic era) video game music. They seem to be all the rage on reddit mashups. So it's not really untapped.. just not as popular, though that seems to be changing, if reddit is a sign of the times (which it usually is).

I know what you mean, though, about the damn fine sound. I still remember my sisters making fun of me for recording Sega game Sound Test bankground music onto cassette tape to listen to later for enjoyment. They didn't realize I was having more fun, the repressed beaches..

There are a bunch. This is my favorite vidoe game mashup that a guy named Yung Internet God did over a remix that Zedd did. It's called "Intergalactic Zelda". Here is the link and Preview:

I also recently made a mashup with a song from the PS1 game soundtrack Chrono Trigger called "A Dream of the Shore Near Another World" with Biggie's Juicy. The Chrono Trigger song is a remix made by Thomas Prime.
