You all as a team should have a lobby, an internal place for your inner discussions. These things here in this thread are very interesting and a pretty popcorn time for a lot of people, but in my eyes not necessary to be discussed in public. Being with your own kind does not mean that you want to be better than we users or members, and there ARE ways to discuss topics with all members of the community. But there also are differences between what's for all and what's just for the guardians.

So, community = common is a vision, a rainbowland where everything's fine and every Sammy gets marzipan. In reality we are all people with different needs, imaginations, expectations and egos. Talking about things is easy, doing something makes the difference. The will to work with each other is the base, the mods are the tools and all members are the fuel to let the board machine go. We should think about what we want to reach here before we give people titles and make every third ACTIVE member a mod. We are all friends and we all want to help? Not necessarily required, two people already have three opinions, but those who WANT to help should get that possibility, also without a mod title.

Folks, we are NOT the same, but we share all the SAME hobby: Our passion for music. And that's what it is all about, right...?

how much do we owe you for your consulting?

Moderators see the sticky at the top of the Moderations forum on how to ban, delete the spamming user and all their posts.

... now back off topic,

I don't want any of the mods feeling that they have to fulfil a quota, it's never been a case of quantity over quality here at Stix... That the whole point of the frontpage; only the cream ever make it.
Give feedback, that's what's important, you'll know if something is frontpage worthy, they'll be the tracks that you feel a need to take time out of your busy lives to share with the world.
If you use that as a guage you know you won't be going far wrong ;)

I, for one, embrace our new overlord. Congrats Lloyd!

I've only FP'd one or two things up until now (mainly because the posts get swarmed by the headmaster himself :D ) but another thing preventing me from doing it is the odd new way of doing things.

Once the whole "official fm" debacle is handled and we get a new system for the FP I'm on it... for instance I wanted to FP LeedM's Wonky track when I heard it but I had no idea how to or if it would work.

Running a board is not easy. I ran one for years and I see the same growing pains here. Tries to do it myself, solicited help, got homogenized, tightened things up, people got confused, bastions built and destroyed, friendships stretched, people came and left, etc.... Rinse and repeat.

My version of a 'lobby'

One thing that I did (and I think that it would help here) is set up a sub forum just for mods. Screwing around with permissions (who can see what) I was able to have a forum that was invisible to the casual user but was visible to mods only. There mods could talk freely without the eyes of the general public, Heck of a lot more efficient than a five way PM/email conversation.

And 'efficient' is a key word here because no one gets paid for doing this. The time this takes to contribute, it has to be offset by the love for music. Or it simply is not worth it.

My 2 cents.

wait a minute I'm not getting paid? Paul promised me untold riches if I became a mod! ;) this changes everything! :)

FYI - I moved the delete/ban spammers sticky to the new mod forum. :)

just wanted to say after reading this comment that I'm happy to step down as a mod. I'd like to contribute more but with family, work and band commitments I just don't have the time (I don't have time for GYBO either btw) so I'd rather go back to just commenting and posting when I can.

edit - I've just worked out how to de-mod myself. Good luck with the board chaps ;)

To quote a great movie

Jimmy: No, Kev, that's it. Look, I don't wanna be the same as everybody else. That's why I'm a Mod, see? I mean, you gotta be somebody, ain't ya, or you might as well jump in the sea and drown.

;)

But I'm enjoying being a Mod - I'm bloomin' terrible at posting normally (HOW many years at GYBO and how few posts? Total with all versions, probably about 500-600 in 10 years) - but since becoming a Mod, I've bumped my posts up two or threefold. I still don't get on enough for my liking, but I do enjoy my weekend listenings (and FP-ings) and I've enjoyed giving out some (hopefully good!) advice to some of the new-comers.

So if you'll have me, I wouldn't mind sticking around for a bit :D

So... order of the day.. let's delete FLP :x  (love you brother!)
