Hi skip,
similar to mashups, it's not easy to help you without any material to work with. Do you have some concrete problemes, which you can't solve by yourself? Are there some results so far?
Whats the main problem? Don't you know how to start?
Some more input is needed. ;)

Yeah GIMP is great, it's not as easy to understand as Photoshop but you can still produce pretty good results.
i usually use photoshop for most things but i did make my avitar in GIMP.

Well, this is the main reason, beside being unispired, lazy or wtfe why some of you guys don't make covers. And I don't mean it bad! Only a few mashie producers design their covers with love. So, why not doing what you can do best (mashies) and leave that unloved shit (cover art) to people who can/ want to make covers. Maybe they like what you hate...

My suggestion: Do we need (or do you wish) a MASHSTIX section where you can ask for cover art? Without any order form! :D Some information are required (title of the track, maybe artists and some ideas and proposals are enough), that's all.

What do you think? It's a kind of help, and some like to do what others hate...

I admit i am lazy at doing some decent cover art for my tracks only reason is graphic art isnt my strong point. I will tend to download a pic that is relevant to the track and post my logo the name of the track & sources in different fonts. I usually do mine in publisher.

Thanks for all the advice. So i have come to find a nice old cd of print shop 2.6 @ a yard sale for a quarter. I like it is simple to use, and believe me simple is the best think for my dead brain cells to stay simple.
Thanks for the help! Mashups For Life!
