Robert Pennington - Calvin Harris Vs Jessie J - Feels Like A
DJ Robert Pennington
Feels Like A Domino
Calvin Harris "Feel So Close" with Jessie J's "Domino".
This is my first post and first project. Just started using Abelton about a month and a half ago and with the help of a tutorial or 2 and my good friend David Austin, I've been able to navigate it pretty well. I'm hoping to receive some feedback (good or bad) in order to refine the sounds I'd like to work with.
About me: Well, I currently live in Dallas and work my main job as a DJ at Baby Dolls Saloon. On the weekends, you can find me playing at various clubs in Dallas. I prefer house music, but as many of you house DJ's know, you are going to have to play some top40 gigs also. I'm also a single parent of a beautiful 4 year old daughter who constantly asks me if I can DJ like the guy from the Fresh Beat Band lol.

A lil' help?
Hey The Pennington, welcome to Mashstix. Thanks for posting the link to your track - it is actually a really great mashup, that would fill any dancefloor. Great work.
But I'm afraid you need to give the guys here a little more if you want any feedback on your track. Please have a look on the sticky posts on the forum frontpage, it'll give you a guide on how to make the most out of your posts here and have people stand up and take notice.
But as a brief guide, can you at least give us the source files used (I know it's in the Subject, but it's always a good idea to include within the body of the post), use the preview player to embed the track on here (people rarely like leaving the boards to hear a track if they don't need to), any artwork etc. etc.
Tell us about yourself too, your likes, your inspirations, what drives you to make a track etc. etc. You'll see we're one big happy community here at Mashstix and we like to learn about each other. We are Family, as someone once sang...
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Cheers
A.

Yes, thanks! I have edited the original post. Wishing I had read the forum suggestions first. My bad

I skipped around a bit in the track and it seems like the vocals are leveled a little too low for the music in some, if not all, of it.

Thanks Rhythm Scholar. That seems like it should be an easy fix. Thanks for listening.

Hi and welcome to Mashstix
I have to apologies, not just to you but to all the guys but the truth is I'm completely deaf at the moment
just getting over a bad fever and it's caused me to lose most of my hearing... how crap is that..??
Anyway... keep listening to Mr Austin... I've long been a fan of his work... and if RS says your levels are off well then I'd be inclined to always believe him too
I promise next time I comment I'll be able to hear again and be a bit more useful...

Thanks Lloyd! Hope you feel better. I did up the levels on the track and re-updated the SC as advised. And yes, none of this would be possible without David's help. David and I have been buddies for a long time and he def has that rare ear for things.

Hi Robert and welcome to Mashstix!
First let me say congrats on finding a bit of free time to make this mashup while being a single parent of a 4yr old girl as I know (having 3 kids myself) just how fun and busy life can be as a parent.
Now on to your mashup. This version sounds great to me. Vocal volume is right in this version and the source placement is spot on and they sound very good together so nice job!
I tend to gravitate towards house / dance mashups since I include them in hour long fitness mixes for my cardio classes that my wife teaches. So, I've downloaded yours and will soon be spinning it up to 144bpm in a set soon
Also, I like that you have a DJ friendly lead in / out as that makes my job easier
Also, I too just started using ableton live 8 a few months ago for mashups (was using Mixmeister prior although I still use MM for longer fitness sets) You'll want to head over to the tutorial section to check out some good tips and tutorials on live 8 in that section. There are several seasoned live 8 users who can always help and some that use it live DJing as well.
Anyway, welcome again and have fun
