How to Deal With Overcompressed Vocals?

Assuming that this is already like that from the studio, what can be done to improve its quality?

Dipping the mids/raising the trebles a bit in the EQ most often seems to bring some fresh clarity into muddy vocals (which can be an effect of over compression). Of course you can't get frequencies back that have been lost, but it does a good job of accenting the positive aspects of the frequencies you do have to work with, EQ-wise.

Also, I've found a very quick, very short delay works wonders in making vocals sound better.
