(FP)CVS - Havana-nananana (Cabello vs. Eminem)

Post Thu Jun 13, 2019 12:20 am

Image
sources:
Camila Cabello and Young Thug - Havana (acapella)
Eminem - Without Me (instrumental)

I found this combo based on the 'nananana', but there are other lyrical similarities ('tell him', 'back back back').

Thanks MashGyver for your review on version 6.
I changed the Camila vocal (and backing vocals and rap...) in v7 to 10 percent lower than it was in v5. It was in v6 30 percent (of a semi) higher.
Thanks for your ears and help !

To compare older versions below:

Thanks MashGyver and Jimmylin for your reviews on version 5.
@1:53 I lowered the volume of Eminem-sample 'attention please' introducing the rapper of Havanna, and also moved this interrupting sample a bit to the back, and moved the rapper parts tiny bits as well.
With Elastique Pitch VST I upped the vocal 30 percent of a semitone.

Thanks Happy Cat Disco for your review on version 4. I changed to another mental (G minor, but not speeded up like in v4) and made an EQ hole at about 500 Hz to temper the very loud snare drum. Tidied up some vocal+rap timings as well.

Thanks Satis5d for your review on version 3 and tips (note the order below):
3. I did some spotpitching in version 3 but that was wrong. Removed it in v4 and also moved parts around so the harmony combo's have changed (in second part mostly).
1. The rapper (not Eminem) is louder now, with volume automatiion on that part (about 2,0 dB)
2. The bad snare was in the mental, so I had to find and use another mental-version and redo the mashup because it had another BPM. Cut out, like before, 40 seconds @1:20
4. This led/let me to move the vocal parts around on mental; 2nd half changed the most.
5. Overdubbed Eminem parts in intro and outro. Ends on a scratch now, to make starting next track easier.
6. Put in more Eminem samples during the mashup. Stayed away from his dirty words.
7. Added cutups in the vocal (and in Eminem rap)
8. Send all vocal channels to the reverb now, not just the Cabello vocal.

Catchy. I like it. :1smiley:

There are a few minor issues, though...

1. The rapper at around 2:00-ish seems to be too soft. He could use a volume boost.
2. There is a sour note at 2:42 (which appears a couple of times later in the song as well.
3. It sounds as though you made some cuts on the snare beats, but didn't quite line things up. Some of the snare beats sound like they are stuttered.

Otherwise, it's close to getting my recommend. :1cool:

Cool idea but the instrumental is time compressed. I don't FP time comp instrumentals without vari-speed for dynamic clarity reasons, but I another mod may post it.

Thanks for your review HCD, I replaced the mental again with a normal speed (112,25 bpm) version, and tempered the very loud snare with an EQ hole at about 500 Hz.
Bonus is that Camila sounds less in a hurry now.
Version 5 is in the O.P. now.

Late to the party here, but I will say that version V5 with the non-sped-up instrumental sounds a whole lot better! The only additional feedback I have is that the transition around the 1:53 mark (when it transitions from Camila to the rap section) happens a little jarringly. From listening to V3 and V4 you posted, it sounds like you've experimented with a few different ideas here, so clearly it's a section you've thought about. Not something that necessarily needs to be addressed, but it is the one part of the track that stood out to me. Other than that, great job!
