Bruno Mars vs Linkin Park

Postby facer123 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:15 pm

Hello Everyone!

bloody heck! it seems every time I get the time to sit down and have a crack at a mash up the bar keeps getting raised! its frikken Awesome! :-)

anywho.., After everyone telling me to start using a proper program except virtual DJ (LOL) i've kinda got to grips with audacity, and low and behold: Bruno Mars and Linkin Park!

Bruno Mars - Just the Way you Are (acapella)
Linkin Park - New Divide (Mental)

No Flash Installed

i read all the stuff about Official FM, so ive uploaded it to soundcloud instead.

at the end the tempo of the pella goes a little sketchy i dont know how to fix that bit so if anyone with more knowledge of audacity - im sure everyone has lol could point me in the right direction.. would be greatly appreciated :-)

thanks for listening :-)

Much Love

Facer

I like both sources, so was looking forward to this. Overall, you've done a good job. Not sure it needs the Marrs vocal Ooo's at 20-35 seconds - I might have left them out - might make the vocals sound crisper and give you a cleaner start, but that's just my opinion. You've matched the choruses and verses well, and it sounds in key to me. The only other comment I'd make is that mental doesn't sound great quality (128Kbs?) - but that might be my speakers!! ;) :D Otherwise, well done! :)

Pretty good mate- I think the second file sounds much better for sure. I think the vocals could use some mastering to make it mesh a bit better (EQ, maybe reverb/distortion/saturation/exciter) to make it sound more natural but that's a small complaint.

You said you use audacity? Props- you should get some sort of a DAW (recommend ableton). It makes things much easier on you.

FWIW, I didn't hear any production problems with this. The instrumental sounded okay, the levels were good, and the structure played well. I didn't even hear the problem you described with the vocal tempo. :(

Overall though, there's something about this pairing that doesn't really work. Each source just doesn't bring anything to the other (IMO).

I've done a lot of stuff with Audacity, but only with v1.2. (I think it's 1.3 now). I think it's very under-rated for making mashups. Any problem with tempo (vocals at least), is very easy to fix. Audacity lets you speed-up or slow-down selected parts of any track by as little as 0.1%, or you can cut and/or add tiny bits anywhere to line things up better from time to time. Hit me up by PM if you need pointers and I'll see what I can do.

cheers!

Hey Facer - welcome back buddy!

I really enjoyed this combo. I think the guitars give Bruno's vox that edge, and it takes the otherwise 'nice' pop song and dirtys it up a little, making something new and unexpected, which is what I love in a good mashup.

Sounds really nicely put together too, so Audacity must be working for you. If you can get some demos or trials of some of the biggies, do give them ago, but I always find that you end up coming back to the first one you became comfortable with, so whatever clicks, stick with.

The only thing I would say is the harmonies on the backing 'aaaaaaaah' parts before the verse don't sit quite right on the instrumental, i.e. they sound a bit flat, but that vocal is notoriously hard to perfectly pair - I'm sure he recorded it flat somewhere along the line - so you can't be blamed for that.

Overall, a really great track, so well done. Now get back to the mash and raise your own bar sir! :D

Cheers

Hello There!!

ya no, what makes this site better than other mashup sites out there is people like myself who are average with teh software and dont really get EQ's and levels and all that, you guys really go the extra distance to help make things better :-)

anyway enough with the speeches and back to the mash...

first one

No Flash Installed

this has the oos and all that

second one

No Flash Installed

this one i used a Flac file convert to make the sound quality better and remove the beggining oooss and aarrsss

final one

No Flash Installed

on this one, i took on board what One Love said about making bruno sound more natural - i dunno what you meant but what i did was lower his vocals by a couple db and increase the treble slightly... imo it sounds the best that way..

i really need to go back to college, quit the day job and learn this stuff full time! LOL.

G4G - i appreciate your feedback - thats what this sites all about :-) i for one am totally grateful for the feedback i recieve as its mostly constructive :-)

Thanks Ladies and Gents i don't know what i'd do without you... on second thoughts i'd probably watch zombie flicks all day lol...

:-)
