Mashstix Mashoff #81 - Do It Yourself, But Not In English!

Post Sun Dec 01, 2019 8:09 am

As you know, 2020 is nigh. And so is the coming of a new decade....
Also, 90-95% of the mashes here shown on this forum have vocals mostly in English, due to the sources available for mashups, even nowadays...

Well, that changed a bit with the coming of THIS LITTLE FELLA! Now you have NO excuse referring to lack of sources to deny this challenge I'll make:

2 Rules ONLY:
- Make a mashup with Non-English Vocals (can contain some english in the lyrics, as long the main language is foreign);
- The vocals must be DIY (which means you will have to isolate the vocals yourself with the previously referred website).

2 Recomendations:
- Any doubts about vocal isolation, search HERE, since most will need that kind of help;
- When submiting your entry, don't forget to have the lyrics translated to English apart (a link for those would be helpful, though I would rather prefer to be yourselves to translate it.)

I'll consider for untie purposes 2 bonuses:
- If the mashup is also Christmas-Related;
- If the story told by the mashup is well-written, even more if having more foreign languages than the main one you're using.

Good Luck, and Have Fun on this last decade's Mash-Off! :1grin:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE 5-STEP DESCRIPTION:

At the start of every month, the (newly entitled) Emperor of MashStix posts a thread containing details of the challenge, for Example: 'Mashups 90bpm or slower with the theme of love'. They should also include the '5-Step Description' and the 'FAQ'.
The post will then shortly be stickied to the top of the 'Submit Mashups' section for all to see and respond to with their entries. Entries must be in by the 20th.
A vote will be created within that thread for everyone to vote on who should win and become the new Emperor (the vote can be created by the current emperor so please don't wait for a mod to do it as we are a busy people)
On the 27th (or a day of the month at the current emperor's choice) the poll shall end and the new emperor will be chosen.

The winning track will then be featured on the Frontpage!

FAQ:

> How should I post my mashup?
Entries are to be posted in the thread using the players in the same way as you would on the main Mashstix board (i.e. via Dropbox, Hearthis, SoundCloud or your own webspace), including details of the tracks used.

> Can I use a mashup that I've made previously?
No, that would be cheating!

> What if there is a tie!?
All ties will be settled by the Emperor (sounds like a worthy title now, doesn't it?)

> I didn't win, what can I do with my mashup?
If you are particularly proud of your mashup but didn't win then feel free to post your mashup in the 'Submit Mashup' section as you ordinarily would.

> What do I do if I'm confused??
Private Message one of the moderators for assistance. Start with the Emperor.

> So the Emperor gets to choose the next challenge and settle a tiebreaker, anything else?
The Emperor will attain limitless glory for all of eternity (and bragging rights)

sources:
Davina Michelle - Duurt te lang (Dutch DIY live acapella with audience) = takes too long
Rita Ora - Your Song (instrumental) slowed down 30 percent, form C# major to G major
Parts (in intro and outro) from an interview in a car with Davina.

'Duurt te lang', streamed 60.000.000 times on Spotify, watched 20.000.000 times on Youtube and on number one in the Dutch Charts for 11 weeks around december 2018.
phpBB [media]

Davina's breakthrough in a TV-show 'The Best Singers' where singers cover each others songs. Written by Glen Faria (he is at 0:10 in video) about the boredom and routine in his own marriage. The other singers are moved and shout 'Oh My God' a couple of times = that is my Christmas connection :1wink:
The interview-video shows Davina in her down to earth, modest, honest, enthusiastic natural manner. Viewing this and reading my translation of the song (on Emperor Gladilord's order) will make you Davina fanboys and girls as well, I think.

=====================
spoken intro:
D: aah, it's a bit like my artist name, my name is basically just Michelle
male : yeah, but how did you come up with 'Davina' ?
D: that is my grandma's name,
male: hey
D: and my second name, so ahh, I just turned it around a bit to make it more interesting
male: More than 10 weeks on number one (= in the Dutch charts)
D: yes, yes it's bizarre, isn't it ?
male: it really is bizarre
D: I sa-, I th-, it all goes so fast, and I still don't get that it really.... STAYS there, like...
male: no
D: I find that very strange.
male: It is a bit of a sexist comparison, but you are the only woman that stayed at the number one position for so long in the Netherlands.
D: Really ?
male: Yes, but men and women are equal, so [sarcastic] in fact you have not achieved a thing yet.
D: [laughs] no... [she imitaties his voice] 'you are a NOBODY...'
D: yes, it's bizarre, awesome. Yeah, you know what it is, I was like
[cut off by me]
========== singing starts @ 0:47 ===============
We could talk about everything, anything
But it was all about love, we forgot everything
I wrote it in a letter, a text message, in a song
I'll do anything for you and I live only for your love
And I got that love, and often in excess
You could leave all bumps in life to me
You saw those girls hating 'cause I had my own superhero
You told your friends about me just too often
Now we stare both at the table with our mouths closed
Looks that speak for themselves in our faces
I have caused most of the problems
But I drive too long in this tunnel and I see no light
So close your eyes for our last set
And think back to that little house with the little bed Shit...
but tomorrow the pain will be back
We'll stand for hours at the platform and the train returns
It takes too long
We have been standing here for a while
And we have to go on so for the last time I'm sorry

It takes too long
Wow, oh
It takes too long
We stand still
What you want, what I want
It takes too long

Two silent people at the table it's not looking good
I can't walk that route with my eyes closed
You know exactly what I will say, and I know for you
And at the end I will tell you, how much I love you
And then the doors slam again and another glass breaks
Then another tear falls and I take my bag again
And after that I hold you very tight again
And put all my clothes back in the closet
So I'll hold you tightly for a while
Because then you forget how angry you were
But the pain stays in place so it doesn't help
So probably it's the same song again tomorrow
The text comes down to the same, on the same beat
A kind of golden paint on a block of sorrow
Conflicts are normal but it should not suffocate us
My tears don't fall, so I let this song sob

It takes too long
We have been standing here for a while
And we have to go through so for the last time I'm sorry
It takes too long
Wow, oh
It takes too long
(We stand still)
(What you want, what I want)
It takes too long
Songwriters: Glen Faria / Morien van der Tang

====== after the outro: @ 3:57 ==================
D: so the area where I am most vulnerable, because THAT is my profession, I am not a make up, stylist, youtube vlogger,
male: no
D: whatever, influencer, I am not any of that, I am a singer, so you can hurt me the most on my singing, and if it is substantiated, and I see (= in a video) and I hear it as well, then I am like SCHEISSE (German for shit) you know
male: f*ck (literally he says as a Dutchman 'c*nt' but not aimed at her) yes yes [he understands what she means]
D: yes, then, then, I thi-, that's where I am most vulnerable, I think.
[pause, feeling awkward in this car interview]
male: an honest answer...
D: yes, but that's how it is.... it's a long bullshit story, but that's how it is
male: no it's not bullshit, no.

Thanks, now onto the next pretender to the Emperor's title;
