Ryan Cannell - Just Don't Deserve Enough (OMD vs Depeche Mode vs Pet Shop Boys)

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Don't Go
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough instrumental
Pet Shop Boys - What Have I Done to Deserve This? acapella

Listening to the latest OMD single, I just wanted to mix in a few of my other favourite synthpop songs.

Version 2

Welcome to Mashstix, Ryan (is that your name?) :1smiley:

Regarding the player, I think it will not work with WAV files, you should use Mp3 format for that.

As for your track, I like the idea of this one, a bit busy, likely because of using more than one instrumental in parallel, having said that, it sounds good most of the time, so I'm giving you one thumb up for creativity :1wink:

Thanks Smash! I've now updated the player with the MP3 version. It is Ryan, I actually posted this track http://www.mashstix.com/005212 a couple of years ago but I must have used a different account.

The OMD track is so new so there's not yet an acapella (and my attempt at filtering one wasn't the greatest success !).

The busy-ness of the mix doesn't bother me. What's holding me back from recommending this one is a small and hopefully easy-to-fix issue with the use of "we could make a deal" from the PSB. It sounds like it's out of sorts with the rest of the song. It either needs to be pitched (up or down) or tossed out.

I really like the creativity of this mashup, and the 80s bands synthpop-inspired sound.

For me, it occasionally sounds like it works ok with being able to get away with the overlapping instrumentation simultaneously. However, I feel as if it’s overcrowded a bit too much to go unnoticed in the mostpart which is a shame.

Thanks satis5d! It's sounding a lot better now without that part

Thanks DJ CROSSABILITY, I'll take your advice on board for future mashups

Version 2 is much better without the "We could make a deal" parts. Thank you.

I've noticed another easy-to-fix issue. In the first part of the song (0:12-0:40-ish) there are some instrumental riffs that don't fit properly. The other parts are still in the TONIC (the base key) but the instrumental moves to the SUBDOMINANT (4th above the base). To fix this, cut out the loop from the instrumental that goes to the 4th and replace it with a loop (usually 4 measures (16 beats), but sometimes less) from just before it and replace the cut-out section. If your DAW allows you to tab to the beat, you can probably cut pieces of exactly the same size for easy replacement.

I hope this helps.

I think Satis5d means 'the just can't get enough instrumental' changes from its tonic (the rootnote of the key that this song is in) to a note that is the 4th in the key, but the other instrumentals (OMD I guess) do not.

So for instance in C major (with notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C all the white keys on keyboard) it goes from C to F (F is called the sub dominant, because G, the 5th is the dominant).

for instance change (with a copy command):
C-C-C-C-F-F-F-F
to
C-C-C-C-C-C-C-C

Beware, I am just trying to help, I am not sure that Satis5d means this.

That's EXACTLY what I meant. :1cool:
