I Know That You Can't Stand The Rain - Missy, Busta, Mariah

In May 2018 I tried out the keep formants button in Acid Pro. Missies voice is changed a lot (6 semitones down, but I like it sounding like a guy) and I cut out a lot of the synth and highpitched percussion at the end of her phrases. Also kept the "at my window" at the same pitch as the rest of the vocal. So it should all be D#m now (even though the acapella from this D#m song, is sometimes called A#m).

No Flash Installed

sources
Missy Elliott - Supa Dupa Fly (Acapella) - 160,00 bpm
Busta Rhymes - I Know What You Want D#m (instrumental)
Busta Rhymes - I Know What You Want D#m (acapella)

Herein lies your issue. I wouldn’t recommend starting with two songs a fourth/fifth apart just because they share most of their notes. Unfortunately that very rarely works out. You really have to analyze chord progressions and melody, or just plain get lucky in order to find a combo that works that way.

Here’s a good discussion on fifths.

Sorry, CVS.

changed the text of the original post and put another version up. Missy vocal lowered, I hope this solves the problem (that seems to be in the high "I can't stand the rain")
Thanks for the replies/comments.

I like your ambition and spirit for not giving up easily :1smiley:

I didn't hear the first version, so in the current version, some of those phrases mentioned, sounds good and some sounds still a bit off, can't help you from here i'm afraid :1undecided:

lowered Missies voice from G#m to D#m but with keeping formants.
Yes, she sounds like a guy :1cheesy: , but I think now an "in-key" guy.

The vocal arrangement is creative, but a little repetive. sometimes its better to just shave off some off the song to cut down on length. Also when acapellas get transposed too much their voices get stretched and feels grey, which I think happened to Missy here

Agreed.

As for your key issues, I think you are good now, anyway I'll be glad to hear more opinions before I decide :1wink:
