Wow HCD! You did it again :1grin:

Your multimashes have the same effect to me as catnip for a cat, this stuff is great!

With all the processing in, it sounds fantastic. Still, that earlier version makes me wonder if you either have a secret source for dry acapellas or some kind of secret technique for deverbing? Starting from dry definitely increases the creative options.

Also, if you have an instrumental processing howto similar to the DIY vocals processing howto you did, that'd be great to share. There's a certain airiness and high-end clarity in this mix that, e.g., I don't have when starting with ogg stems. I accidentally discovered hitting the instrumental with exciter, but if there are other tricks I'd love to know.

I just cut out the sections between each phrasing.

The stems were uncompressed waves, not ogg, so I would imagine they had more high frequency content. That said they still needed mixing and mastering. I just EQ'd and ran them through a State Digital FG-x until it sounded similar to the release. Even still my piano was too quite by about a dB I've since fixed it.

Ok, since I'm a cheap-o, I took a look at this plugin to figure out what it is doing. Seems to be:
  • A nice compressor, with lookahead and automated spectral limiting.
  • The equivalent of exciter ("lo punch and detail").
  • Really nice readout ... but basically I just zoom out and look at the wiggly worm to figure out RMS and Peak.
So it seems like the first thing (finding a better compressor) is something I should focus on.

Another bomb from the cat :1cool:
Next time instead of the vocals of DJ Oliver, I expect to hear your "meao" voice :1tongue:

This is really simple, easy, and effective. I was trying to clean up a 5.1 surround rip just now, and found myself doing this, and it really makes a huge difference.
