Mashstix.com Top 15 Tracks of 2011

I decided to do a top 15 list in a slightly different way. The main thing I was looking for is who really is Elite here on Mashstix and I did that by seeing who had the most popular, near perfect production techniques and really knew how to get their name out here. So, below is the list of my favorite djs from 2011 who I personally consider elite and the best of the best on this site. I hope nobody has their feeling hurt as I did my best with showcasing what Mashstix does best. Muchos Peace and love!

Jarod graced Mashstix with 10 tracks this year, which is only about half the tracks that most of the elites got frontpaged. But, out of those ten, Jarod managed to have 3 smash hits. Not to mention that his tracks average a whopping 96 votes. Also, all three of the below tracks were #1, #2 and #9 in this years most liked (rated by the mainstreamers).

Jarod also put together and released one of the most successful compilation albums to date. With over 15000+ tracked download, Mash Fatal takes the crown as the best compilation album of the year. Now that's one dj who knows how to promote their wares. You can check out the full mashstix exclusive edition of Mash Fatal here and we certainly hope Jarod picks us to host his next album.

You shook me all Friday Night Long (AC/DC Vs. Katy Perry)
+270

Dan and Marc have long been considered Elite djs here on Mashstix but this year saw them collaborate on some of the most memorable tracks of the year. Most years, Dan and Marc would of been in the running with their solo productions but it seems that their best tracks seem to evolve when they put their minds together.

Combined, these two had a surreal 37 tracks frontpaged this year (Marc had 24 and Dan had 13) and it's obvious why they are two of the few producers who dominate the scene.

Love Takes Over On A Friday Night (David Guetta vs. Katy Perry vs. LMFAO)

Well, what can I say about Dylan that everybody already knows. Not only is Dylan one of the most respected members of the mashup scene but he's also played a key role behind the scenes here at Mashstix. He was the team lead (if you will) that almost single handedly put together our popular sMASHup 2 Challenge check it out here.

Dylan had 15 tracks frontpaged this year which pretty much seals the deal for his Elite status. Not to mention one of the most downloaded tracks in [Just Can't Roll In The Deep Enough (Black Eyed Peas vs. Adele vs. Mike Posner)]. This year saw Dylan produce some gems with a heavy influence on club anthems... mixed with mainstream sources. If you want the whole package of proper structure, mastering, filters, cover art, and being extremely accesible to the beginners... Dyls your man.

I always like to think of Schmolli as the guy who makes the best remakes in the business and we all know how fast the public can turn on you when you mash their favorite classics. Schmolli doesn't only succeed, but he manages to make almost all his track dance floor friendly. Truley, one of the most gifted on the turntables as well as in bedroom productions (no, not that kind of bedroom productions ha).

Schmolli had a huge year on the frontpage with 20 of his tracks making their presence heard (and felt). It took a couple of years but Schmolli finally arrived on Mashstix this year and we can only hope he continues to pick this site as a way to showcase his killer tunes.

Feeling Good, Getting Nowhere (Magnetic Man vs. Nina Simone vs. Imogen Heap vs. Ting Tings)

I'll get right to the point with this one as , imo, Lee is the only dj who has a non-mainstream sound that still manages to have elite status. I'm not trying to be crude to the others who don't go the mainstream route, but if people can't or don't enjoy your sound, than what is the point (don't even give me that "I make music for myself bullshit"). I will say that I strongly considered Bynar, Phil Retrospector, Michmash and Rick Lee in this spot, but I feel that they are almost at Elite status and I really feel they will get there in 2012.

Back to LeeDM101, who had an impressive 17 tracks frontpaged this year. Not to mention very strong showings in our challenges. Only thing I can say is keep doing what you are doing as you are truley one of the best at this mash game.

The Double Dutch Jump (Van Halen vs. Malcolm McLaren)

Mad Mix Mustang had one hell of a year with massive productions and even time to put together a mashup festival at Passpop. MMM even managed to get Alice Cooper tweeting about his "Alice in Boogie Wonderland " track, which is a nice boost to the confidence. And on top of all that, MMM became a Stix Team member and mod this year with some awesome advice for the site behind the scenes... almost like a personal consultant.

MMM didn't have a massive output of frontpaged tracks this year with only 12 but he remains one of the go to mashers when people are looking for compilation participants as well as advice. Awesome year and I predict MMM will retire 3 times in 2012, only to submit a track the next day.
Honorable Mentions, Up-And-Comers, Suprising omissions

First I do want to say a big thank you for the people in the backgrounds who pretty much ran the site this year... lloyd, the idea maker who pretty much made sure all problems were sorted asap... and he's got the best ear in the business. Dylan, who always bring his A game and really knows how to get projects moving, our own personal propaganda machine, if you will. Rick, who did an awesome job with Radio Stix, modderating, producing and drinking all our wine. Bruce, who's love for mashups really makes me smile, not to mention one of the nicest and pro-scene guys around. To everybody else, a big thank you as all of you have made Mashstix very enjoyable for me to run... lets hope for a killer 2012 (if the world doesn't end that is)

Some will look at this list and call it garbage because of obvious ommisions. There's really a ton of fantastic djs out there but I tried to focus on the ones that I consider Elite. Now, to me Elite means being great in the basics, creativity (being original or not doesn't mean anything to me), and most importantly... popularity. Now before you throw something at me, please note that by popularity I mean how marketable are you, how much time do you spend promoting yourself. All three of those categories need to be high for me to label someone Elite.. and again, it's only my opinion.

So, who deserves honorable mentions... G3RST for his wacky combos, Michmash for taking odd sources and making them new, Fissunix for pretty much being a new combo of Dan, Marc, and Schmolli, Dj Flashard for beating the odds and winning the sMASHup comp, Ryan Nellis for really being one of the most improved djs this year (perfect mastering is almost there for you bud).... now I can go on and on but it's hard to remember the top 50 tracks... hence why I went with the 15 most memorable, as close to flawless, and popular combos as I could think of.

One other thing I do want to point out is the newcomers that I think will surprise us in the following year. DeeM already has the basics perfect and we'll see if he can twist up some more clever word plays, Dj Darkz already has a few cheese variaties and we'll have to see if he can take Rappy's king of cheese crown, Vic who's had a pretty damn solid year... my goal for you would be to try to increase production to the 10 to 15 range.

Well that's it, hope everybody enjoyed the list and I can't wait for 2012.
