This is the last Mashstix Alternative Show. I like to personally thank G3RST for the amazing job he's done with the show (don't worry he's not leaving the team)

There is some good news with the bad however, as The Radio Stix Show will be back in full swing with a whole new crew... keep your eyes peeled! - Paul Stix

Stylish White Walls (Arctic vs. Gorillaz)

Stix Review By: Dj Flashard

Pros:

Great chilled out / moody mashup from Pheugoo. I'm wasn't aware of 'Arctic' before, but managed to track down the bands website at http://www.projectarctic.com/ (having searched on Yahoo and got everything from Crown paint to beavers - o-wer!). Was also surprised to find Pheugoo's mash get a mention on the bands website - nice to see a band being open to mashup artists, and Pheugoo supporting a (relatively) unknown band get a wider audience.

Cons:

I like this mash a lot. No cons that I can think of. Key wise, the Gorillaz vocals fit like hand in glove with the Arctic instrumental and retained vocals. If you like the more mellow Radiohead tracks, this ones for you.

Tips:

Checkout Arctic's other tracks and support this up-and-coming band. The media player on their site gives a nice overview of their music / styles. For Pheugoo, err, no tips - just much respect for supporting a new band and getting their music heard by more people (well, me anyways!!)  ;o)

Hometown B*tch (Adele vs. The Prodigy)

Stix Review By: Nosbic

Pros:
Look up brilliant mash in the dictionary and you'll be sure to find Pheugoo's latest offering, "Hometown B*tch".  Let me begin by saying this track is, literally, the only tune I've listened to for the past 2-3 days....set the ipod to repeat and enjoy the ride!  Who would have thought the contrast of the sources could combine so well?  Opening with the soft piano of Adele and then jumping right into the rough, relentless groove of the Prodigy and building to the big beat at the chorus, this track grabs you from the get go and doesn't let you go!  Prodigy mashes are plentiful but this manages to stand above most and shine.  You even managed to get a couple of my country-music-loving co-workers grooving...no small feat, believe me!!
Cons:

There are a few very minor thoughts I had that could improve this track...the middle interlude seems like it either is a touch too long(and gets a little stagnant) or could use a little more going on in the mix.  Also, the ending could be drawn out a little more, perhaps break it down back to the piano riff on its own, as at the start?

Tips:

hahaha, thats funny...like Pheugoo needs tips from me!

Go Beggin' the DJ (Go Back To The Zoo vs. Madcon)

Rating: 3.2/5 (13 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Dylan Vasey

Pros:

I'm a sucker for Beggin', love it. So this was a happy assignment.

The vocal play at the start set you up for a journey into Pheugoo land. Dutch band, Go Back To The Zoo (who I had to do a search on) work really well structurally with the track.

Verdict: Another Pheugoo winner !

Cons:

None really, seeing as its hard to get on the frontpage these days, this feature is a bit redundant ha.

Tips:

Produce more! You seem to have spurts when you whack out two or three mashups, then stop for two months ha (although I know that the family thing comes first !).

In Your Love Dealers Eyes (Kylie Minogue vs. Esmée Denters ft. Justin Timberlake)

Stix Review By: mARKYbOY

Pros:
Brilliant Pheugoo!

This instrumental always gets my head nodding a little (it could be just  imagining Kylie in the infamous gold shorts  tho' ).  The two sources used work extremely well together to the extent of this sounding like an original track.  Its gonna go down really well in the clubs I'm sure!  I can definatley see why this got played nationally on 3FM.

This is all I expect from a Pheugoo tune, well chosen sources - excellently produced!  I've been a long, long time fan Sir.

Cons:
I've listened to this a few times now and can't pick a fault with it anywhere really.  Get on over to Pheugoo's and grab what you can - it's all essential listening.

Let Love Flow (Queens Of The Stone Age vs. Lenny Kravitz)

Rating: 3.0/5 (15 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Dj Stroke

Pros:
"Let The Love Flow" flows perfectly! Calm, clean, and crisp...this is an A+B done right. I really like the progression throughout the song as well, naturally getting louder and more intense near the end. That bridge to the final section of just Kravitz vocals was by far my favorite part, and I was hoping during the song that the intensity might pick up a bit.
Cons:
There may be some impatient listeners who won't wait around until the end to get to arguably the best part of the song, the climax near the end. But then again, that's the case with nearly any mashup that relies on progression.
Tips:
I really don't have that much insight to give you, the quality sounds good and it never skips a beat. There are times where it drags on a bit (right before the culmination of everything), but I personally don't see it as a problem...I just know that some people who are into just the high energy top 40 mashes may find it dull at times. Overall very well done!

Nothing Dirrty On You (Christina Aguilera vs. BOB ft. Bruno Mars)

Rating: 3.2/5 (29 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Reborn Identity

Pros:
I'm no great fan of modern chart pop but B.O.B.'s "Nothing On You" is certainly one of the better tracks out there at the moment. For the most part the two tracks used here work well together and there's a big audience for this kind of mashup.
Cons:
Christina's "Dirrty" is getting a bit old and tired now, and even the up to date backing can't completely refresh this overly familiar vocal. There are a few points where the vocals don't sit perfectly with the pitch of the instrumental either, especially in some of the backing vocal sections.
Tips:
It's good to hear fresh new tracks mixed with something older and more familiar but with the huge range of options available now, "Dirrty" doesn't seem like a terribly inspired choice. A smoother, more soulful vocal might have worked better.

I Need The Right Moves (One Republic vs. LL Cool J)
Preview Download Forum Link

Rating: 3.4/5 (16 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Eddie Pedalo

Pros:
This is a clever blend of styles, mixing One Republic's poppy faux indie vocals with the electro hip hop ballad beats of LL Cool J.

Melodicly the two match really well, a well produced hop pop fusion.
Cons:
hmm... LL Cool J's original had a  fragile, vunerable feel, which was it's appeal. hip hop ballads were, and still are, credibilty suicide, only a rapper of LL's quality could dare to attempt, especially in 1987 when most cool acts like Public Enemy and Ice T were moving in the opposite direction, making there music harder and faster.

sorry, started getting all nostalgic there.

by removing the vocal, you've broken that fragility and replaced it with poppy white fluff.  yes, this is a very clever combo, but it doesn't do it for me.  that said, I bet if you posted this on the One Republic fan site you'd get so much love.
Tips:
Genius is born,
mediocrity has to be worked for.

Un-Tik-Tokked Desires (Muse vs. Kesha)
Preview Download Forum Link

Rating: 3.8/5 (24 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Dj Flashard

Pros:

Pheugoo returns for his first submitted mash to Mashstix this year. And it's a goody! Kesha gets the Muse treatment - this is a well put together mash. There is plenty of breathing space around the vocals for the mental to work. The chorus and verse are well matched with the mental so the toon sounds like it was intended in the first place, and it is all matched key and tempo wise. Nice mash - Muse is a refreshing backdrop for the Kesha pella and gives the track a new feel.

Cons:

The only con really is that it's Kesha - Tik Tok again. As already stated by another reviewer, she's getting a little over used in the mashup world. That might switch a few listeners off. Otherwise, no probs.

Tips:

Slap me round the head with a wet kipper if I let your mash slip onto page 2 without reviewing it!! Many apologies, Pheugoo, I must try harder in future...

Boom Bongo Pow (Manu Chao vs. BEP)
Preview Download

Rating: 3.6/5 (14 votes cast)

Stix Review By: G3RST

Pros:
This new mix by Pheugoo features that classic Manu Chao King of the Bongo tune and Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow". Quite the unexpected combo! The chorus and lyrics fit Manu Chao's tune quite well, and work exceptionally well during the chorus and rap segments of the song. Sound quality and production are ace as always.
Cons:
None that I can think of, but I personally can't stand this song by the Black Eyed Peas... mind you: that's just me. You really did a great job mixing this, and that's what it's all about!
Tips:
Are you kidding me? You did an excellent job on this. Please bring us more Pheugoo-style combos. :)
