This is every bit as ingenious as I would expect from MadMixMustang, and polished to perfection. The end result is wonderfully smooth and natural, and despite the serious clash of styles and eras it doesn't feel like a novelty track.
Cons:
Nothing to see here, move along...
Tips:
I'd file you alongside G3RSt as one of the most consistent, creative and prolific mashup producers on the scene. You don't have the reputation and following I believe you deserve though. A few more videos on YouTube certainly wouldn't hurt, even if they've got simple visuals like the ones you already have on the site.
One can always count on MMM to deliver off-the-wall (and often hilarious) genre jams, and his latest effort is no exception. Placing Dire Straits' classic over Lily Allen's C&W pastiche sounds strangely natural for the most part, and since country is a neglected genre in the mash-up world, this gets high marks merely for including it. There's something melancholic about this mix, which the phone line effects accentuate. All-in-all: an entertaining diversion, this little mash-up.
Cons:
Duly considering Mark Knopfler's Dylanesque "singing" style, there are still some out-of-key/out-of-tune moments in here (e.g. at 0:35 and 1:06), which, at least to my ears, distract and detract from an otherwise pleasurable listening experience.
Tips:
Not sure it would be possible to fix the occassional bum-notes, but it could be worth it. And this is just personal taste and a minor point, but a radio effect (like in Pink Floyd's "WYWH") might have been more effective than the phone effect (and not make one think the mash is badly mastered at the beginning). Anyway, stay mad creative and keep on bringing the original, fun stuff!
Fantastic mashups using classic songs are the Mad Mix Mustang's stock-in-trade, and his combos always seem to come right out of left field. This one teams Billy Joel with Petula Clark, and although it's a tad pedestrian, it feels just fine as it is. The harmonics are a great match, and MMM has put in quite a bit of work cutting up the instrumental to make it a really good fit with the 'pella. The result is a blend which is sure to be number one on many internet top tens, thanks to its full blown nostalgia and the best play on words using song titles in a mashup for a very long time.
Cons:
On the technical front, I thought the vocals were a little bit quiet in the verses. Apart from that, the instrumental didn't seem to have the driving energy I remember from the original song, so I'm not sure if it's a karaoke version. Nothing you can do about that. I would have liked to hear some Billy Joel vocals in there too, but there's probably not much you could do about that either.
Tips:
People have received lengthy jail terms for causing less barefaced effrontery than if g4gorilla was to offer Mad Mix Musting tips.
Another track from the person that came in at number two in the top twenty mashups of 2009. Your work is normally outstanding, and I don't think I have heard anything from you that I didnt like. However, this mash is not for me.
Cons:
I like most people follow your work, as you have made some of the best mashups on the net. But I have to say this is very sub standard for you (IMHO).
The vocals don't really gel that well with the RnB backing. I also feel that your mastering work (which is normally fantastic) has let you down here.
Tips:
I don't need to give you tips, you should be giving us them.

(Bob Marley vs. Daft Punk)
There are few artists I dislike as much as Bob Marley, so it goes to show what a great job you've done here that even I like this mashup. The two songs fit together like hand in glove, and the overall feeling is wonderfully joyful and summery.
Cons:
There's not much to find fault with here. The tracks fit together well and the production is excellent as ever.
Tips:
You don't need any and I'm certainly not going to try to give you any. I just hope that your other commitments ease up over the next few months so we can enjoy more great combinations from you.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 10/06/09 Remember The Clocks
(Michael Jackson vs. Coldplay
vs. Pink Floyd)
Jaxploitation continues! And this is another example of an MJ mash-up that works superbly, both musically and conceptually. The individual parts mesh like clockwork (no pun intended), Michael's vocals sound great and flow smoothly over the Coldplay remix, and the production is excellent. The Pink Floyd samples highlight the general theme of impermanence, making this mash-up a real tribute track with existential weight, rather than merely another exercise in opportunism. Very nice work!
Cons:
The synth line in the intro sounds a little weird against the main piano riff, but that's Royksopp's fault, not yours. Hence: no cons to speak of.
Tips:
Rock on, dude! ;-)
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 09/22/09 Human Flash
(The Killers vs. Irene Cara)
One of the things I love about MadMixMustang mashups is that you never know quite what you're going to get. You're one of the most creative producers around, and unafraid to mix tracks that are unusual or in this case, downright cheesy. Using a song as twee as "Flashdance.. What a Feeling" could be risky but you pull it off flawlessly here. The end result is a real joy to listen to and produced beautifully too.
Cons:
In terms of production, it's done brilliantly - even the slowed down Killers vocals in the intro sound right. The only downside is that Brandon Flowers doesn't bring quite enough emotion to the track to match the explosion of feeling that the Irene Cara song conveys.
Tips:
You're one of the best around, so you certainly don't need any tips from me. All I can ask is that you maintain your fearless attitude to mixing and keep bringing them thick and fast.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 09/11/09 The One I Love In The Morning
(R.E.M. vs. Razorlight)
A simply perfect A+B mashup which fires on all cylinders and works on all fronts. Production and key matching is flawless, with REM's "power-dirge" nicely revived by Razorlight's instrumental, with its punching drums, and its unexpected-yet-entirely-apt chord progressions, as well as nifty changes and drop-outs. These factors maintain the listener's interest from start to finish, without the need for many whistles and bells from MMM. It's to the aforementioned Mr Mustang's immense credit that the last minute of this mash plays so well with only the chorus being echoed and over-layed, letting Razorlight do most of the work.
Cons:
None from me. This is pure, jealousy inducing, typical MMM quality.
Tips:
There are theories in physics which posit the existence of an infinite number of alternative universes. Many of these imagined universes would necessarily be subtle permutations of our own reality. These multi-universe theories are most easily debunked by the objective fact that there is no possible universe in which g4gorilla could dispense tips to MadMixMustang.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 08/16/09 I Got More Than A Feeling
(Boston vs. Black Eyed Peas)
MMM returns with a superb mashup that brings together Black Eyed Peas with Boston without sounding cheesy at all - now that's a feat! If you liked the latest album by The Killers, you're in for a treat. The pairing is really ingenious and the vocal interplay is very well executed. Great use of stutter and delay effects, too. I think we have a serious SOTW contender here!
Cons:
None, nada, zero, zip.
Tips:
Giving us two versions of the track was a great idea, keep it that way ;-) And add your site's address in the ID3 tags in order to gain some extra traffic.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 07/31/09 Mia Freaky Mamma (On A Leash)
(Abba vs. Korn)
This is the usual highly intriguing choice of source material thrown together that can be expected from most MMM mashups. Great overall quality in Instrumental and Vox with some wonderful moments gelling incredibly naturally within the mix. Menacing yet compellingly uplifting - this track seems to muster up for me the true essence of 'Mashups', simply by doing everything right with 2 juxtapositioning elements from differing ends of the musical spectrum.
The cover is of a very high standard as well, with nice clean compositional use of text, colour and main image being utilised proficiently.
Cons:
No cons. Your choice of material creates something most interesting and varied.
Tips:
None. Your Mixes should inspire others to try and think outside the box a bit more with what choice of source material they choose.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 07/19/09 I Feel Good Inc.
(James Brown vs. Jamiroquai vs. Gorillaz)
Let me start by saying, I compile a mental list of the top tracks of 2009. To be honest only maybe three tracks have made it onto that list. You have just made the 4th and possibly the best track I’ve heard this year. Your approach is excellent, I love the fact that you are not afraid to experiment. For instance the use of a youtube clip is very inspiring and very very well executed. For those that haven’t heard this track yet, think James Brown singing with Sade. The use of The Gorillas at the chorus is also very well executed. This could well be in contention for a top ten number one spot and SOTW.
Cons:
If I had to pick something I would have to say that JB’s vocals sound a bit extracted, but this does not spoil the track at all.
Tips:
None. This is perfection.
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 07/02/09 The Way You Got Me That Feeling
(Michael Jackson vs. James Brown)
This is an extremely addictive song, the more I listened the more I liked it. I've never been a Jacko fan but matched with JB it gives Jacko a very funky edge that works really well. The horns in the mental suit Jackson's vocal really well and give a very natural feel to the tune.
Cons:
Apart from me not being a Jacko fan, none! A well presented funky little number.
Tips:
I think I'd have tried to add a little scratch to the Jacko vocals to 'age' it a little with the JB vocals - just me being strange!
MadMixMustang - Dj Submitted - Added 06/19/09 That's All Right Now!
(The Free vs. Elvis Presley)
Haha, this mash-up is a big barrel of summer fun and does your DJ name full justice. I love the way the chord progressions fit together so well, esp. at places like 2:00. Such a simple idea, yet so effective and well executed - thumbs up and thanks for making my day!
Cons:
The Zarathustra intro is cute, but too long, and prob. superfluous.
Tips:
Keep on bringing the fun & quirkiness - you're quite good at it.
MadMixMustang - Stix Bot Recommended - added 04/25/09 Love's Alright!
(Stevie Wonder vs. Bob Sinclair)
Last year, you could of easily labelled MadMixMustang as the best newcomer to the scene. This year, he's only gotten better and better and continues to impress. This Stevie Wonder track has been mashed by many but only one could pull it of like this. Stix bot also likes how easy the MadMixMustang website was to navigate. A visit is highly recommended for more.
Cons:
None. But stix bot would like to see you submit more tracks and get some American traffic to your site.
