Grab It, Burn It, Play It For FREE! Our super smash video mashup god BORIS B brings us a 48 minute none stop party cd featuring some of our favorite Stixers like... MMM, Gara Gara, LeedDM101, Schmolli, Bynar and Eddie Pedalo.
Lee has well established himself as one of the scenes elite's. In fact this year (well so far) I would say Lee is second only to one other person.
I like producers who whilst you know your going to hear something good, you can't quite slim them into a certain genre bracket.
Everything in this boot, is comparable to that made in a £300 per hour studio. The effects are well timed and add to the mash, and the vocals work with the instrumental very well. The entire production gives the impression that it is an official remix of the Sugababes track. It really wouldn't surprise me if you were asked to remix for a label shortly.
Cons:
The only things wrong with this is there isn't an extended version for DJ's to use in the club, and the end cuts off a little premature.
Tips:
Don't email Gara Gara when he is battered in a small club in Edinburgh !
I see Paul gave this one to the right reviewer since, well... I'm a big fan of Nine Inch Nails, and 'Beginning Of The End' is just a fabulous track.
LeeDM101''s "Nine Inch Monkey" is a very cool combo indeed, and I must say Peter Gabriel's vocals fit the backing track amazingly well here. They give the mashup a bit of an eerie feel, which is a very good thing. After two and a half cool minutes, it's already over, but it just shows I enjoyed it. Sound quality and production are good on this tune too.
Cons:
Of course, there are a few cons here. There are some off-key moments (at the beginning of each verse) and -sorry- the running time of two and a half minutes is a bit of an issue too.. since, you know - I would have loved to hear more of the tune. Then the ending is a bit abrupt, which is a bit pity.
Tips:
Apart from the points made above, which could improve this already very nice mashup, I just couldn't help but think there must be other Peter Gabriel songs that would go with this backing track - 'Steam' for instance would've fit this track very well too imo - you could give it a try. ;)
Anyways, keep bringing us combos like these, since I really enjoy them, as I did this track.
Typical! I've been working on a Linkin Park - New Divide mash, then Mashstix gives me one to review! ;o) They're like buses (as they say up North). Anyhow, if mines anyway near as good as this mash from LeeDM101 (does that mean ur from Leeds and you live somewhere near the M1?), I'll be a very happy parrot. This mash puts Linkin Park in a laid back dance mood - with plenty of euphoric dance feelings to it. I'm not familiar with Dead Can Dance, so not entirely sure where they fit into the mash, but good work - I like it.
Cons:
None really. All on time and on key - no problems there. Are Chester's vocals a little quiet, especially towards the start of the mash? It's probably my hears again - need to stop listening to loud music!
Tips:
You've been at this game longer than I. I wouldn't dare! ;o)
There's a bleakness to R.E.M.'s "The One I Love", which often gets misinterpreted as a love song. There can be no mistaking the feeling behind the lyrics in this version. The piano loop brings a brooding sadness to Michael Stipe's vocals, stripping the song down to its emotional core. The whole track has been constructed beautifully, and would sit perfectly alongside Phil RetroSpector's most melancholic mashes.
Cons:
There's not one thing I can pick apart here. Every element works well together, and I couldn't pick out where the sample ends and your own input begins. Heck, even the artwork is spot on.
Tips:
Over the past year you've done some of the most interesting and impressive mashups out there, covering a wide range of styles and genres. There's no need for me to give you any tips - I'm the one taking notes!
Damn i lost count during previewing this mini-mega-mix. Great job on fitting all those tracks in just 3:30 minutes. I am pleased to see more and more producers creating these kind of "mega-mashups" and as far as i know this is the first time you've combined this many artists in one track. It really shows what you're technically capable of combining so many tracks without a single glitch.
You've also did a great job of fitting in some "edit cuts" and creating a wide stereo image by cutting and panning vocals to L & R.
Cons:
Missing sample / tracklist is the only con, but since you've lost your original Acid file there's only the "vicious virus attack" to blame (as stated on your blog)
This is one of those mash-ups that just fits like a glove from the get-go, even if one wouldn't expect these two sources being combined: impeccable matching, mixing and production. And this wouldn't have been half as great had it been the other way around (with Britney's vox): I love KoL's wailing over these beats, and the great job you did on vocal processing and glitching, putting in the extra work to make this sound like an official remix. A well-deserved #1 on the RadioStix countdown!
Cons:
None. This is perfect.
Tips:
Tips? None for you mate. I really appreciate your approach and how you turn slightly off-the-wall combinations into bona fide bangers.

Radioactive Tubular Girls
(Kraftwerk vs. Duran Duran vs.
Mike Oldfield vs. Cavin Harris)
This is a superb piece of work, everything works perfectly well together. To get Tubular Bells into a mash is inspired and the whole is lifted with the 'mental' running behind it. The 'Girls' pella coming in at around 1:00 is amazing, it transforms from a pop vocal into something much darker, this coupled with the 'I Love Them ......Girls' vocals turns this into a masterpiece! Definately one of the best mashes this year - a keeper and on repeat!
Cons:
Have you just read what I put above :) !!!!!!!!!
Tips:
None - you da man!

Disco Fire
(Kasabian vs. The Trammps vs. Ottawan)
Slipping a couple of disco classics over the top of this slinky number from Kasabian gives them a whole new lease of life. The production is superb and it slides beautifully between all the different elements.
Cons:
This does everything I like to see in a mash - a smart pairing of track titles and subjects, spot on production, and great mixing between all the different vocal elements. I can't find fault with it at all.
Tips:
You've got this one in the bag - no need for tips here.

Pearl's Silence
(Bat For Lashes vs. Delerium)
This is a very well-spotted A+B combination of house and harmonic equivalences, exquisitely produced (as usual), which sounds like an original track or remix. Indeed, the two tracks fit together so well here...
Cons:
.,.because the originals are already interchangeable. Hence, there is nothing at all adventurous or challenging about this mix, though it's sure to go down well in certain circles.
Tips:
Great ears, no question. But this is pedestrian compared to your previous work, and very cheesy to boot. Please bring back the real!

Twisted Insomniac Wedding
(Billy Idol vs. Faithless vs. Evil Nine)
Wow, this is an outstanding mashup and a very creative use of the Billy Idol vocals. And I must say throwing in a bit of Faithless in the mix is close to genius. The beginning of this mash has a bit of an Aggro1 feel to it, if I may say so. Later on it breathes a bit more, and it gets a whole vibe of its own. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is: get this in your ears, people. ;)
Cons:
AbsoluteLee none.
Tips:
Hahaha! No.

Miracle Prayer
(Fragma vs. Ian Brown)
Very smooth blend of two electronic and vocal sources. I was not familiar with either one of them, and after listening to this tune for the first time, I could not hear anything that indicates that it's a mashup... that's how smooth it is. Afterwards I listened to the seperate tracks, and they truly fit like a glove. Anyways, to cut things short: excellent production & an ace mashup!
Cons:
None.
Tips:
Are you kidding me?

Closer Miracles
(Fragma vs. Ne-Yo)
Very funky beat with a nice new style that works for a pretty damn cool new sound and feel. The keys matched suprisingly well and this certainly is one that people will like on the dancefloor. It's definately one that could start being heard in the clubs here.
Cons:
With 'Toca's Miracle' it just seems to have too blunt a feeling of simple A+B (most likely due to the track's age and amount of use), so it would definitely be nice to get some of the vocals from Fragma integrated more in to the track.
Tips:
Not a huge amount of tips I could give here seeing as the mashes you produce seem to hit the right mark each time. However the one thing I would possibly advise is to try and avoid the 'classic' club tracks that have unforunately been overused by many over the years.

Broken Dreams
(Depeche Mode vs. Evanscence)
The Evanescence instrumental is a really good fit with the Dream On vocal, providing a more haunting orchestral spin on the Depeche Mode track. Clean construction and understated production make it a very pleasant listen.
Cons:
The limited vocals in the Depeche Mode chorus make the track a little repetitive in the later stages, and it would have been nice to have a bit more variety in the backing to contrast with this - something that the instrumental isn't supplying at the moment.
Tips:
A good track could perhaps be made even better with good use of an extra element, especially in the later stages. A dash of the Seether/Evanescence vocals might be perfect.
