Stix Review By: G3RST

Pros:
DJ Dylan Vasey brings us another dancefloor friendly tune. This on has a real alternative edge to it as he uses the vocals of Linkin Park's frontman Chester Bennington.
The vocals are a excellent match to the upbeat backing track, and the extra filtering applied to them blends them in perfectly. As we have come to appreciate from Dylan, the production on this one is outstanding.
Cons:
Nah, I can't think of anything.
Tips:
Are you kidding me? The only tip I can give you is to keep producing these flawless floor fillers. Awesome tune!

Stix Review By: Gara Gara

Pros:
15 tracks for the price of 1? Result.
Great production. I love the interweaving of the vocals.
The Iyaz track features enough to not make it sound like a random mish mash - and it sounds like a proper collab between the artists, in a Band Aid stylee.

Cons:
The only con for me is that bit right near the end where Mary J is speaking before Gaga (no relation) - i still don't think the two gel as well as everything else in the track, like there's a slight bit too much of a pause between them.
But that's all.

All The Right Releases (One Republic vs. Agnes)

Stix Review By: Dj Flashard

Pros:

Hey Dylan, sorry for the delay reviewing this mash - as I think you know, I've kinda been tied up producing my mashup and video for the Mashstix Challenge. Incidently, if you wanna vote for me  ;o)  hit the link below and vote for me!!...

http://www.mashstix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=609

Sorry, another cheap plug, but you gotta give me credit for persistance and initiative!!  ;o)  Anyway, sorry, onto the review - nice mash. I like the flow and interchangeability of the vocals. One Republic is a perfect match in key and tempo for the Agnes vocal - the two are well suited. Good job!

Cons:

The only one possible comment I could make is that the Agnes vocals sound a little thin and tinny against the One Republic vocals (but I guess you kinda know that already). Not sure of the source or what you've had to do to them to get them workable, but they don't quite sound as good a quality. Not that that takes anything away from the mash.

Tips:

Don't use YouTube or DailyMotion for copyrighted videos from WMG? Thought you'd appreciate that one!  ;o)

Play In The USA (Miley Cyrus vs. Jennifer Lopez)
Preview Download Forum Link

Rating: 3.6/5 (55 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Xam

Pros:

This is imho an other perfect example of how a mashup should be produced. Both Jennifer Lopez and Miley Cyrus vocals are well balanced and running smoothly along with the Wideboys Club Mix. Adding the Fedde sample would normally be kind of "over done" but in this case the lyrics wise connection just fits the bill. A real dance floor filler that should be played at high volume in a club near you.

Cons:
The only con i have is non audio related; it seems that all your latest video's on youtube are letter boxed (4:3) while you do use 16:9 source material. Try to render your videos to a 16:9 resolution so we can enjoy your videos at their native resolution.

Happy In This Club (Leona Lewis vs. Usher and Custom Vasey Beats)
Preview Download

Rating: 4.0/5 (71 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Eddie Pedalo

Pros:
This is a very slick pop mash, which upon first hearing, I thought was a remix.  The instrumental fits the 'pella like a glove, so I asked Dylan how he created it and he explained:
"using Leona Lewis’s new track and Ushers Love In The Club. I know it has a long start with no ‘mixing’, but (embarrassingly) I really like Leona’s new track ha, so used that at the start. There is no official instrumental for the track, so spent two days making one out of 5 different karaoke tracks and beats. All the karaoke tracks sounded a little like the original, but not perfect until I welded them together. I think it ended up almost exactly like the original backing."
Impressive dedication to the art Dyl', there are no short cuts to greatness.  I expect to hear your work in the charts next year.  JLS could really use your talents.

Cons:
Leonna is least charismatic pop star ever, which really comes through in her mind numbingly dull ballads, every time I hear her voice I feel like putting my head in the oven (I won't, don't worry, its electric anyway, I'd just toast the back of my head) .
Make the instrumental publicly available (It's superb), and let the Mashstix Posse loose on it, it deserves a better vocal.
Tips:
Squirrels.

I'm Not Your Mashup (La Roux vs. Tears Of Fears)
Preview Download

Rating: 3.8/5 (15 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Pheugoo

Pros:

Yes you are... This is a verry cool relaxed Mashup. The songs strangely seem to fit quite naturally. And it was a good idea to return to the original La Roux vocals in the bridge. Excellent! And i love the video! (People check it out!). In conclusion a WINNER!!!!

Cons:

Got no big Cons at all. But... What leaks in my opinion (ultra minimal though) is that the La Roux track sounds quite cold and the Talk Talk is warm and whooly. So the blending isn't optimal. And I miss some Talk Talk backing vocals in the La Roux part.

Tips:

Yeah like I said. Maybe some EQing and the backing vocals in the bridge.

Pjanoo Shadows
(Eric Prydz vs. Morcheeba)

Stix Review By: g4gorilla

Pros: udie Tzuke had a lone hit way back in 1979, called "Stay With Me 'Til Dawn." Sixteen albums later, she's added her earthy vocals to Morcheeba's 2008 single "Enjoy The Ride"; a shuffling little number with a pop-country feel. But wait! Enter Dylan Vasey, who turns the track on its head by placing Judie over a drum-n-bass remix of "Pjanoo" by Erick Prydz. Suddenly, we're listening to something more akin to Everything But The Girl. This mashup is a corker, with a lot working in its favour. The flow is fantastic as is the momentum, and there's a freshness through the track that seemed to be lacking in either one of its original separate components. The track is kept alive through its 7 minute duration as the music quietens and picks up again, and the vocals come in and out at perfectly selected times. And of course, production is everything we would expect from Mr Vasey. This would pass for an official remix.
Cons:
I wasn't completely sold on the effect at 6:17, is all. In my humble opinion, some sort of filter effect might have sounded a little less out of place. That's a very minor quibble, though.
Tips: Proponents of String Theory multi-universe hypotheses are further disheartened now that g4gorilla has eliminated at least two possible alternative universes.

Madonna Is Gone
(Kelly Clarkson vs. Madonna)

Rating: 3.6/5 (16 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Reborn Identity
Pros: The trancey instrumental is far and away the best part of the new Madonna single, so I'm quite happy to hear the vocal bumped in favour of something better. The Kelly Clarkson song isn't a bad fit and the attempts to trance up the vocal work fairly well. The Ramada sample comes in at just the right time to keep things interesting too.
Cons:
With a track as well used as Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone", it really needs to fit perfectly for the mashup to work. There are many parts here where the vocals don't quite fit perfectly though, especially in the choruses.
Tips: A few tweaks here in there might help to iron out the problems with the vocal but it might work better if you keep the parts that work perfectly - the verses - and replace the choruses. You could even pop some Madonna in there.

On a side note, I wish more producers would put together videos for their tracks - especially using elements from movies. YouTube is a massive audience for music, and a proper video can bring a track many more listeners. Your video syncs really nicely and is edited very well - if you can get all your video elements to the same size/ratio too, that would add another level of professionalism.

The Way Her Umbrella Moves

Stix Review By: Dj Bynar
Pros: Excellent rework of a played-to-death track Dylan, your quest for finding the perfect Rihanna acapella really paid off. The pairing is as seamless as it gets and although the track clocks in at 4:15 it never gets boring. My favourite moment was the breakdown in 2:30. Although I don't know what reggaeton is (no, seriously!), judging from your mashup it must be something good, even for people like me. I played it at my club night yesterday and the girls filled the dancefloor - I owe you one for that ;). A rather juicy lass even asked me to bury my Sisters of Mercy records (yeah right) and spin more tracks like yours, so bring them on!
Cons:
You'll hear no complaints about production, ook moments etc. from me, everything is spot on. However, I must admit that I expected a more detailed ID3 tag from someone as experienced as you. Now that almost everyone's got an iPod, a file named "Zion Ft Akon Vs.mp3" with wrong ID3 tags and no artwork at all is certainly a no no. I'm not bitching, just pointing out something that many people seem to forget. It's really a pitty to spend precious time making a killer mashup and lose points due to poor presentation.
Tips: You certainly need no more tips from me :)

Stix Review By: CjR Mix
Pros: A wonderfully orchestrated dance track akin to the Funky House masters themselves ~ Freemasons. Brilliant use of vocals used throughout, with both versions structually very sound and tight - which brings me onto awarding extra points for coming up with both a Club Mix AND a Radio Edit. A great idea that I would love to see occuring a lot more within the Club Mashup fraternity. An all round VERY listenable track which captures the hazy Ibiza summer feel beautifully.
Cons:
None to speak of. If the pedant in me had to say something here, all I could possibly suggest maybe is raising the Treble a notch on the overall result just to really punch out them vibrant tones you have occuring, but I really am clutching at straws here, and hey - it's me. ;)
Tips: No tips. You both play the game majestically, and just keep on doing what you do best chaps - very uplifting and technically wonderful Mashups.

Stix Review By: Paul Stix
Pros: I am super excited to introduce "Black Dove Productions" to the world! Consisting of Team Stix memebers Dylan Vasey and Winkar Lopez. This is a killer club track that could easily pass as a commercial remix. Sound quality is excellent and I can only imagine the frenzy this will cause in clubs. (In fact, at the demo club release, the place went nuts!)
Cons:
No cons and this is perfect timing to be going up against DMF and Clivester! This is a very exciting collab movement that's going on in the scene. You two certainly have a huge opportunity here to de-thrown DMF from the top. We'll let the public decide and this should be a battle for the ages!
Tips: No tips for you guys. However, to the rest of the scene. The bar has been majorly raised with these two releases and I would love to see some more collab teams forming to take these guys on. It's time to bring it! So let the games begin!!!

Pros: All this time, you've been hiding this little gem from all of us. I am very impressed bud as this is another Anti-Hit list contender. Perfect execution, production and source quality is top notch. I can also tell that you've up'd your MASTERING game. Have you been emailing Dan? lol. Seriously, this is a SOTW contender.
Cons:
No cons. But I will say, that I've had the privilege to attend a Peas concert and believe it or not, they are actually incredibly talented (they can play almost any instrument you throw in front of them). What I'm getting at is that you definitely do them justice.
Tips: No tips. But I do have a feeling this won't be your last mash that we get to hear this week/month. :)

Pros: Dylan you just made one of the best funny mashes I have heard in awhile. A sure dancefloor pleaser. I simply love this wonderful track. I think it should be a SOTW contender! This one could be a very BIG mashup for you....
Cons:
I would have spiced it up a little with a mastering compressor or limiter. Besides that it's flawless.
Tips: See above!

Bye Bye To A Star

Rating: 3.7/5 (20 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Reborn Identity
Pros: As much as I may dislike Mariah Carey, I have to admit "Bye Bye" works pretty well over the Corinne Bailey Rae track.
Cons:
The quality of the vocal sounds a little suspect - I guess it's a DIY jobby? There's sometimes no helping that but it does detract from the track a little.
Tips: If you want your tracks to sound as professional as possible, quality source material is a must.
