Dont Stop Till You Work It (Missy Elliot vs. Michael Jackson)

Stix Review By: Dj Not-I

Pros:
In this slick clubland collabo, Dylan and Jarod up the tempo of a classic Missy 'pella and set it to a disco reworking of MJ's "Don't Stop," including filter sweeps, digital cuts, and a touch of Michael himself. The sound is great throughout and the final product is an upbeat little party stomper.
Cons:
No arguing with the sound here - it's pretty much perfect. However, I'm not sure it compensates for the lack of freshness. Missy and Michael are both mash-up staples and have been done to death already. If this had been made seven years ago, I'd say "Hell yeah!" but now it's just seems dull and "stock."
Tips:
Fantastic sound! But for your next collabo you guys should try something more adventurous.

Stix Review By: g4gorilla

Pros:

Mashup wise, DnB is either under-used or under-exposed so it's great to hear another boot from Dylan featuring this genre. This combo works great, with the increased tempo of the Nelly Furtado vocals being offset nicely by the way they flow so well with the bassy instrumental. Additional samples complete the mix to make things even more enjoyable. Lots of people (myself incuded) will be feeling this one.

Cons:

I'm not sure about the quality of the 'pella... it seems a bit extraneous. But since I'm still working on my own issues in that department, I'll only briefly allude to how I might have tried some extra reverb (which I've only just started messing around with...)

Tips:

Bring out a whole album with this genre, and make sure you do videos for all the tracks.

Then we can download the D.V. DnB CD & DVD. Haha I crack me up.

Love In A Headlock (Imogen Heap vs. Daniel Beddingfield)

Stix Review By: Dj Not-I

Pros:
In his latest stroke of genius, Team Stix dean/don Dylan Vasey combines the vocals of teenybop heartthrob Daniel Beddingfield with the atmospheric electronica and additional voice of Grammy Award-winner Imogen Heap in a drum & bass remix. The resulting combo fits like a glove and is reminiscent of the work of Aggro1 (aka Angels & Filth) in that it takes what, on its own, is a generic pop lament and lends it big cojones without forsaking harmonic interplay. This really sounds like an official cross-genre remix. I dig it!
Cons:
At first, I wasn't sure about the sound of the main 'pella. But it seems it's been tweaked to match the sound of IH's vox. In fact, they're hard to tell apart, which is a great effect, so no cons!
Tips:
Turn it up!

Pros:
DJ Dylan Vasey brings us another dancefloor friendly tune. This on has a real alternative edge to it as he uses the vocals of Linkin Park's frontman Chester Bennington.
The vocals are a excellent match to the upbeat backing track, and the extra filtering applied to them blends them in perfectly. As we have come to appreciate from Dylan, the production on this one is outstanding.
Cons:
Nah, I can't think of anything.
Tips:
Are you kidding me? The only tip I can give you is to keep producing these flawless floor fillers. Awesome tune!

Pros:
15 tracks for the price of 1? Result.
Great production. I love the interweaving of the vocals.
The Iyaz track features enough to not make it sound like a random mish mash - and it sounds like a proper collab between the artists, in a Band Aid stylee.

Cons:
The only con for me is that bit right near the end where Mary J is speaking before Gaga (no relation) - i still don't think the two gel as well as everything else in the track, like there's a slight bit too much of a pause between them.
But that's all.

Stix Review By: Dj Flashard

Pros:

Hey Dylan, sorry for the delay reviewing this mash - as I think you know, I've kinda been tied up producing my mashup and video for the Mashstix Challenge. Incidently, if you wanna vote for me  ;o)  hit the link below and vote for me!!...

http://www.mashstix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=609

Sorry, another cheap plug, but you gotta give me credit for persistance and initiative!!  ;o)  Anyway, sorry, onto the review - nice mash. I like the flow and interchangeability of the vocals. One Republic is a perfect match in key and tempo for the Agnes vocal - the two are well suited. Good job!

Cons:

The only one possible comment I could make is that the Agnes vocals sound a little thin and tinny against the One Republic vocals (but I guess you kinda know that already). Not sure of the source or what you've had to do to them to get them workable, but they don't quite sound as good a quality. Not that that takes anything away from the mash.

Tips:

Don't use YouTube or DailyMotion for copyrighted videos from WMG? Thought you'd appreciate that one!  ;o)

Play In The USA (Miley Cyrus vs. Jennifer Lopez)

Stix Review By: Xam

Pros:

This is imho an other perfect example of how a mashup should be produced. Both Jennifer Lopez and Miley Cyrus vocals are well balanced and running smoothly along with the Wideboys Club Mix. Adding the Fedde sample would normally be kind of "over done" but in this case the lyrics wise connection just fits the bill. A real dance floor filler that should be played at high volume in a club near you.

Cons:
The only con i have is non audio related; it seems that all your latest video's on youtube are letter boxed (4:3) while you do use 16:9 source material. Try to render your videos to a 16:9 resolution so we can enjoy your videos at their native resolution.

Happy In This Club (Leona Lewis vs. Usher and Custom Vasey Beats)

Rating: 4.0/5 (93 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Eddie Pedalo

Pros:
This is a very slick pop mash, which upon first hearing, I thought was a remix.  The instrumental fits the 'pella like a glove, so I asked Dylan how he created it and he explained:
"using Leona Lewis’s new track and Ushers Love In The Club. I know it has a long start with no ‘mixing’, but (embarrassingly) I really like Leona’s new track ha, so used that at the start. There is no official instrumental for the track, so spent two days making one out of 5 different karaoke tracks and beats. All the karaoke tracks sounded a little like the original, but not perfect until I welded them together. I think it ended up almost exactly like the original backing."
Impressive dedication to the art Dyl', there are no short cuts to greatness.  I expect to hear your work in the charts next year.  JLS could really use your talents.

Cons:
Leonna is least charismatic pop star ever, which really comes through in her mind numbingly dull ballads, every time I hear her voice I feel like putting my head in the oven (I won't, don't worry, its electric anyway, I'd just toast the back of my head) .
Make the instrumental publicly available (It's superb), and let the Mashstix Posse loose on it, it deserves a better vocal.
Tips:
Squirrels.

I'm Not Your Mashup (La Roux vs. Tears Of Fears)

Rating: 4.2/5 (24 votes cast)

Stix Review By: Pheugoo

Pros:

Yes you are... This is a verry cool relaxed Mashup. The songs strangely seem to fit quite naturally. And it was a good idea to return to the original La Roux vocals in the bridge. Excellent! And i love the video! (People check it out!). In conclusion a WINNER!!!!

Cons:

Got no big Cons at all. But... What leaks in my opinion (ultra minimal though) is that the La Roux track sounds quite cold and the Talk Talk is warm and whooly. So the blending isn't optimal. And I miss some Talk Talk backing vocals in the La Roux part.

Tips:

Yeah like I said. Maybe some EQing and the backing vocals in the bridge.
