This is the last Mashstix Alternative Show. I like to personally thank G3RST for the amazing job he's done with the show (don't worry he's not leaving the team)
There is some good news with the bad however, as The Radio Stix Show will be back in full swing with a whole new crew... keep your eyes peeled! - Paul Stix
a mighty genre-bender this one by Dj Fac. Techno Billy Joel! Billies big 70's vocal pounds perfectly with the Evil Nines contemporary kickdrums. Glowstick rocking goodness, top banana!
Cons:
A very minor thing, and I don't often get to say this, but the vocal is a touch too loud and overwhelms the minimal instrumental at times.
Tips:
We didn’t start the fire, it was always burning since the world’s been turning?
It would never hold up in court.
Great match. These two tunes go together really well.
You've used two tunes i don't know, with vocals not in English, and i've enjoyed it every time i've listened to it. The instrumental is great.
I was going to listen to the originals like i normally do when doing these reviews, but have decided not to cos i'm liking this one just as it is!
Cons:
None. everything is where it should be, and the whole mix sounds tight.
Personally I'm a big fan of the pet shop boys, just love that typical synth-pop sound they produce. In this mashup there's a realy sweet balance between the two tracks.
The acapella of Stephanie Carcache is perfectly blended in timing wise, key wise and topped on that fixed up with some neat FX.
Level of the vocal is slightly boosted compared to the original pet shop boys but that is just fine since the used acapella is very "clean".
Cons:
None! The only thing i could think of is put down in the tips section.
Tips:
Where are the pet shop boys vocals? It would be so cool if they just sing along in the 2nd part of the chorus (the "uh ooh" combined with "you need more, you need more") But then again.. this is just me as a pet-shop-fanboy talking :)
Swiss DJ Fac's here again with a very unusual combination. Who would've thought that the vocals of the old school rock band Lynyrs Skynyrd's "Simple Man" would flow so easy over the clubby Spears track?! The mix sounds very crisp and levels and production are excellent!
Cons:
The only con I think of that the instrumental might be a tad repetitive to support the length of the track, which is almost 6 minutes. Apart from that this is a very solid mix.
Tips:
Apart from the critique I have above, I really like this track, and I can't think of anything that might help it make any better. Fac did an excellent job on this - and anyone should take the time to listen to his track here.
Using Muse in a mash-up is always a plus, and having them back the stylings of Swedish pop starlet Agnes works quite well here, giving bite (and dare I say balls) to an otherwise cheesy pop tune. Great production and song structure - the sections of the two songs complement each other, and I love the Muse vocal bridge, but my favorite bits are the refrains, especially the last one, where Agnes drops to a lower register.
Cons:
While the refrains are quite harmonic, there is some slight uneasiness between the vocal verses and Muse's chord progressions - no "bum" notes, mind you, just some rather odd intervals. However, the combo grew on me with repeated listenings.
Tips:
Err...Don't drink and drive. Seriously though, I enjoy your productions and this is a good example of a classic genre-jamming mash-up. Maybe just give a little more attention to harmonies, but keep up the good work!
