Introduction:
Have you ever downloaded a mashup song or long mix audio file, or any independent artist's music file for that matter, then realize that you've stumbled upon a great little gem and want to grab more of that producer's work, but then find out that the producer's name is nowhere to be found and you have no idea where to find more of it on the Internet?

Or you find a mashup song in your music archives that's over three-years-old, and you have no idea who produced it?

As a music/mashup producer or DJ, this may not be that big of a problem for you since you already have the inroads to the appropriate forums and other artists who can help you find what you're looking for. But a general consumer of music, who typically obtains the music from public music promotion sites or from his buddy (as an email attachment or from a USB memory stick), would be quite lost in trying to find the producer of the song, and thus, won't find out where to get more.

Similarly, administrators of music promotion sites have little extra time to search around the Inter-web to figure out who produced what song. So if they cannot quickly determine the producer for a song, chances are they won't bother promoting it on their site, and you, as a producer, lose out on another opportunity to get additional ears on your work.

Music producers and DJ's should be aware that each audio file they post can and will promote their own work and it should be considered a promotional medium in its own self. Obviously, the music itself is self-promotional, but it stops there if people can't determine who produced it or where to find more just like it.

With a few basic guidelines and very little extra work, music producers can ensure that other people will know who produced the song, and know where they can find more work by that producer. It will also make it much easier and quicker for consumers and administrators of music promotion sites to organize, find, and promote each producer's work.
